Founded in 1980, the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering (CSBME) is a national first-class society, which is rated 4A by the Ministry of Civil Affairs. It is the only professional society in China that integrates scientific research, teaching, clinical practice and research and development.

At present, CSBME has 34 branches (professional committees) and 17 working committees. Among the more than 23000 members of the society, there are senior, middle-aged and young professionals in the field of biomedical engineering, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Changjiang Scholars, distinguished professors, clinical medicine experts, experts and entrepreneurs in the development and production of medical devices.

CSMBE joined the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE) in 1986. In May 2012, CSBME successfully held the 12th World Congress of medical physics and Biomedical Engineering (WC2012) in Beijing.

Biomedical engineering uses engineering science and technology to promote the progress of biological and medical sciences. It is one of the fastest growing disciplines in the world. Since its establishment for 40 years, CSBME has been fully leading the progress of biomedical engineering in China in terms of discipline construction and promoting the combination of production, learning, research and medicine. Through the organization of academic exchanges at home and abroad, editing and publishing professional books and periodicals, carrying out popular science activities, disseminating scientific spirit and ideas; organizing members and scientific and technological workers to provide suggestions and suggestions for the development of science and technology, and to participate in the investigation, approval and evaluation of the State Council, The National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Health Commission, the National Medical Products Administration, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, etc. The transfer of government functions promotes the development of science and technology.

The academic journals sponsored by CSBME include Chinese Journal of Biomedical Engineering, Chinese Journal of Biomedical Engineering (English Edition), Chinese Journal of Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology and Chinese Journal of Hemorheology. Among them, Chinese Journal of Biomedical Engineering has long been included in China Science Citation Database (CSCD), Chinese Core Journals of Peking University and Chinese Core Journals of science and Technology (CJCR), and the impact factors of CJCR have always been in the forefront of this field.

In the future, CSBME will focus on the three themes of "Strengthening Ability, Increasing Connotation and Building Mechanism" to establish a brand, build a professional think tank, improve the innovation mechanism, strengthen the cultural construction, lead the development direction of the discipline, enhance the ability of international exchange and cooperation, and build a first-class science and technology association with important international influence.
